So St. Patricks day is right around the corner and I always think that this holiday helps us get through the winter that refuses to leave! It’s also a special day for us because it’s my husbands birthday too. We have a lot of celebrating to do in March! I always think that’s it’s fun to make it memorable for the kiddos. It’s nice to have a holiday that doesn’t really have a high expectation, you can really just make it fun! It can be hard sometimes to know how what to do for them, so I’ve made this idea post for you all to help make the holiday a good one!
Start off with a Green Eggs and ham breakfast!
Ok so I didn’t think of this one on my own. When I was little, I remember going over to my friends house one weekend over St. Patricks day and I had breakfast with their family. Their mom had the cutest breakfast made up for us. Green eggs and ham! She literally just dyed the eggs green and cooked up some ham. Then while we ate it she read the book to us. It was a simple fun way to start off the day and I have remembered it ever since! Nothing like a little Dr. Seuss to start off your day!
Possible Activities:
– Make a craft they can wear to school or at home
I don’t know about you all, but the ‘I’m going to pinch you if I can’t see you are wearing green’ was kind of annoying when I went to school. You can easily help your child avoid this by wearing something green (obviously) or you can make a fun craft out of it! Print out a leprechaun, or a four leaf clover and have them color it and pin it on their shirt!
– Make Green Slime
Slime has always been a great seller for little kids. I don’t know why but kids LOVE this stuff! They make kits you can easily buy at the store and keep your littles entertained for a long time! (Just make sure to keep an eye on em’, especially around carpet!). Also, make sure you read the ingredients on the box before you leave the store. Some tend to have some weird ingredients like eye solution.
– A treasure hunt
Kids always have SO much fun on their treasure hunts. You can easily make one up yourself or find one on Pinterest! The Dating Divas have a really cute one that I’m going to use. They give you the clues and fun printables you can print for your little ones! Each pack has various activities. They did all the hard work for you, you can find it HERE on their website! I personally loved these as a kid and it gives them something to look forward too!
Make treat with the kids:
There are literally endless options for this one! Green rice crispy treats with lucky charms marshmallows has always been a favorite of mine. My mom also has THIS rice crispy treat recipe with chocolate on her website. The St. Patricks bark pictured can be found HERE as well. There are a bunch more recipes you can find for St. Patty’s day at “Garden seeds and Honey Bees” that you can find HERE if you want more options!
Another favorite of mine is “Green Slush”, it’s super simple and there are only four ingredients that you need:
-
-
- Sherbet
- Sprite
- Hawaiian Punch Green Berry Mix
- 1 Frozen pineapple juice concentrate
-
In a large glass, put the amount of sprite and punch desired. Then had a tablespoon or two of the frozen pineapple juice. Then add a couple scoops of your sherbet and you are done, super easy!
End the day with a fun movie!
I like to eat the treats we made by watching a fun movie afterwords! When I was a kid, Luck of the Irish was my go to! Haha (please tell me someone else remembers this! It’s actually on youtube TV right now if you want to go down memory lane! hahaha). Or the grinch is always a fun one to watch for the holiday! But really, it doesn’t even have to be those. Just pick a family favorite to enjoy and to snuggle up with!
I hope this gives you guys some ideas on what to do! I just think it’s fun to make the day a little special for the kids.
Happy planning!
XO, Jamie
