Hello everyone! I’m so excited to share this post with you all. This is such a fun tradition that my mom started for our family around halloween. We throw a big party for all the kids and grandkids to dress up, play games, and eat good food! And of course, fun decorations to set the mood.
I wanted to share this post with you all to help those of you that want to throw their own family/friend parties! I hope this helps inspires your own ideas for your own get togethers for the holidays.
In this post I’ll be sharing:
- Halloween Decor
- Tableware
- Our spooky Halloween Menu (with recipe Ideas!)
- Activities/Games
- Cauldron Bath bombs
And another party TIP: DRESS UP IN YOUR COSTUMES (DUH!)
With that, let’s get onto the party ideas!
HALLOWEEN DECOR
Halloween is always one of my mom’s favorite holidays to decorate for! She’s got about every decoration you can think of. From her, I have started my own love of decorating. A few store’s I love to shop at for decorations is: Real Deals, Target, Walmart, Home goods and TJ Max.
I shared some really cute Halloween finds from target here!
This year I found some of the cutest paper dishes and tableware for your own party too! I’ve linked all the things here and on this post.
TABLEWARE
THE ‘MYSTERY’ SPOOKY DINNER MENU
My mom always has a fun variety of ‘spooky’ foods for our dinners. Things like ‘spider cups’ or ‘vampire’s blood’ or ‘witches brew’ are on the menu and we get to pick our foods for the 3 courses, but she also added another fun spin to the menu… You had no idea what you were getting!
She puts everything she’s made onto the menu that she prints out for each guest, then she also gives us a blank menu divided into three courses. We get to choose from the menu items randomly and put together our own lists. Every course you get to pick 5 or so items (she even includes the silverware on these! and sometimes you wouldn’t get your silverware until the next course! haha).
There are lot’s of fun food ideas for these dinners, my mom does themes sometimes which can help narrow down party planning ideas, or you can pick and choose your own fun foods.
Let me share some food ideas that we’ve done over the years:
Ghostly Caesar Salad
This is a cute easy salad that we made for one of our dinners! She made the ghost croutons and ‘boo’ cheese cut outs from cookie cutters. You can find the recipe here!
Donut ‘bites’
These are a cute simple desert idea that everyone will love, especially the kiddos! We just got the donuts from krispy kream and put fake vampire teeth in the middle! Plus little candy eyes you can get from the grocery store.
Chicken Pot Pie
This is a fun spooky twist of this yummy dish! My mom just cut out the pie crust into a skeleton and it was so tasty!
You can find more of the details and exact recipe here.
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Ball
Mummy Pops
I actually made these ones for our party! My all time favorite treat are oreo truffles, and I saw this idea on pinterest and thought this spooky version would be the perfect for our party!
That’s just a few ideas, there are lot’s more spooky recipes for your own Halloween party! You can find more at her blog here or on her Pinterest (which is amazing!).
EXAMPLE MYSTERY MENU
I made this design myself! Cute and simple, I also made a blank version that you can print out for your own menus!
HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES/GAMES
We usually have a cute game/coloring page/activity for the kiddos to do. We’ve done lot’s of things to ghost games, cauldron bath bombs, bobbing for apples, you name it!
The kids really like the cauldron bath bombs my sister made for us all! You can put a little warm water in at a time and watch the magic happen as the cauldron bubbles over! Super fun and you can find the little cauldrons at a dollar store or Walmart!
Lollipop Ghost Game
You’ll need:
- Ghost Lollipops (see link above on how to make your own, SUPER easy, all you need is tissues, lollipops, string, and a sharpie)
- Dice
- Pot/pan lid
- Floss/String
- Any kind of Halloween Candy
Setup:
- Tie the same length of string/floss to the base of your ghost lollipops
- Make sure everyone playing has a ghost lollipop
- Everyone starts out with the same number of candies (we used toostie rolls)
How to play:
- Have everyone playing form a circle, have them put their ghosts in the middle while still holding onto their string/floss.
- One person has the dice and the pan lid (everyone will take a turn around the circle to do this). If either a ONE or a SIX is rolled, the person holding the lid tries to catch all the ghosts under the lid. Everyone else tries to pull their ghost out from the circle as fast as they can to avoid being caught.
- If they are caught then they have to give one of their candies to the person who caught them with the lid!
- The game can go as long or as short as you want it too!
And that’s it! I hope this gave you all some ideas and inspiration to start your own halloween party traditions! It really can be a lot more fun than even trick or treating if you ask me!
